From cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to snowboarding, downhill skiing and snowmobiling, Western Montana is a great place to enjoy the snow. Fine Ski Resorts and Cross Country Ski Trails are located in close driving distance to beautiful Missoula.

Kids ski free at Lookout Pass, located on the border of Montana and Idaho. The beautiful scenery and 34 runs of fresh powder and 540 ski-able acres make this Family Ski Area unique. Lookout’s original lodge is the 2nd oldest Ski Lodge in the Northwest, giving it a great historic feel and is one of the best in the west.

Before you hit the slopes in the morning, make sure you stop by and check out the “Sunrise Specials”, or stock up on “Mountain Muffins,” made with your choice of sausage, bacon or ham, egg, and cheese melted on top of a toasty English Muffin. Other breakfast items include cinnamon rolls with vanilla icing and biscuits with gravy.

For lunch, you might prefer a specialty salad, made with only the freshest and most seasonal ingredients. For a more hearty lunch, try the delicious soups and chilies made fresh. You’ll always find something new on their specials board, so stop in before your afternoon run!

If Lookout isn’t for you, then head east and visit Montana Snowbowl. On Tuesdays, you can get Free Rentals at Montana Snowbowl. With plowed and sanded roads, Snowbowl is easy to reach, located north of Missoula.

If you like extreme drops and deep powder, Snowbowl is your place. 2,600 feet of vertical drop make Snowbowl a enjoyable and exciting experience. (If you’re not into that extreme stuff, there are runs for you too.)

Snowbowl’s 42 trails and weekend shuttle bus guarantee a pleasurable time. Dust off that Cowboy Hat Folks, its Mineral County Fair Time!

Every year, Mineral County looks forward to the first week of August. The Mineral County Fair is a time when people of all ages come together and enjoy music, rodeos, animals and of course, fair food.
Each year is a different experience at the fair, but some things never change. Like, the food. The locals set up booths for food and drinks to raise money for their organization or their group.
The Hospital, Historical Society, local churches and of course the 4H are among some of this year’s vendors. But enough witht the usuals. This year, something big came to Superior. Bull-o-rama.
For the very first time at the Mineral County Fair, a whole event was dedicated to Bull Riding. Sponsored by the Superior Lions Club, this two and a half hour event was a huge hit.
Another big hit this year was a band called “Copper Mountain”. They rocked modern day country songs after the Superior Lions Club Go For The Gold Rodeo on Saturday night.
Other events at the Mineral County Fair consisted of the Mineral County Talent Show, 4H livestock auction, a dog show, a Cabin Fever Quilt Show, and many more.
Another popular attraction is the Old Fashioned Chuck Wagon Breakfast. The Methodist Men of Superior get up early, rain or shine, and prepare a feast of hotcakes, sausage and eggs. And, of course,
hot coffee and juice.
So, if you’re out and about in Mineral County during the first week of August, stop by and grab a burger at the Mineral County Fairgrounds in Superior, Montana.

The next time you’re in Superior, or passing through on I-90, take a break for lunch at The Old Fashioned Soda Fountain

in “downtown” Superior. Located on Mullan Road, you will find some of the best sandwiches in Western Montana.

Made to order, the Hot Panini sandwiches are amazing! They also give you the option of fresh homemade soup or Chips with Casa Pablos Salsa (If you’re from Missoula, you remember this yummy Mexican restaurant.)
